October 10, 1933: The First Lauching of Dreft Detergent, sponsor of Dreft Star Playhouse

  October 10, 1933: One of the most primitive synthetic detergents, Dreft, started its production. The Dreft sponsored program The Dreft Star Playhous e went on air 10 years later in 1945. Dreft Star Playhouse was  Lux Radio Theatre 's   "prestige drama ." The show featured a famous star.  A popular person was interviewed casually. In the interview they made a mention of the sponsor's product. In this program, listeners were treated to new, more intimate relationships with stars and celebrities that were formerly only available in the pages of fan magazines. The celebrity on the show shared aspects of their private lives to their fans so they could feel closer to the stars.

Debut of Cavalcade of America

Today in 1935, Cavalcade of America was first broadcast this very day. The CBS  show featured some of  Hollywood and Broadway's most famous stars in  leading roles in the half hour dramas. Thomas Chalmers narrated the  stories about obscure incidents and people in American history. The  orchestra was led by Donald Voorhees. The show aired from 1935 to 1953,  changing from CBS to NBC in 1939; with one sponsor for its entire  duration. The DuPont Company introduced its slogan on Cavalcade of  America ... "Better things for better living through chemistry..."

October 5, 1952: Inner Sanctum' continues it's 11 year run

 October 5, 1952: The well-known mystery series  Inner Sanctum remained on air for 11 years. The notion of the program’s characteristic sound of a creaking door actually came from a door in the studio. One of the staffers innocently oiled the door before transmission, which compelled the sound man to produce the sound physically. The anthology series was almost better known for its puns and morbid jokes. Sanctum captivated audiences with sound effects, a grim host in Raymond Johnson, and guest stars. Humor was added to keep listeners engaged.
