September 24, 1942: ‘ Moonlight Serenade ’ was presented for the last time by Glenn Miller on CBS. The Chesterfield Cigarettes sponsored show ran thrice a week. " Moonlight Serenade " ended its run after three years on the airwaves of CBS Radio. The 15-minute radio series, which featured Glenn Miller and his band, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, was aired three times a week on a prime time slot. It was presented by Chesterfield cigarettes, hence the main title of the show, ' The Chesterfield Show '.

  September 21, 1946: " The Second Mrs. Burton " was heard for the first time on the entire CBS network after being tested on a regional basis. The show fared very well, and stayed on the CBS network for 14 years. Hector Chevigny had written the scripts of "The Second Mrs. Burton". It ran for 15 minutes on CBS starting at 2 PM from Monday to Friday.

September 20, 1953: Jimmy Stewart  starred as Britt Ponset in his 1st appearance in an NBC Western program ‘ The Six Shooter ’. Stewart  was famous for whispering during the parts of high drama and suspense throughout the show. However, only 39 episodes ever aired, and the show lasted only one season. It ended well, with Stewart's character proposing marriage.

September 18, 1927: On this day Columbia Broadcasting System started to broadcast its first program entitled "The King's Herman Opera." This day is known as the formation day of CBS corporation. The history of CBS began on January 27, 1927, when Arthur Judson created "United Independent Broadcasters" network in Chicago.  In April 1927 Columbia Phonograph Company, rescued "United Independent Broadcasters" network by investing in the network. The network was then renamed "Columbia Phonographic Broadcasting System." and aired their first broadcast on September 18, 1927, with a presentation by the Howard Barlow Orchestra  from  WOR station in Newark, New Jersey, and fifteen affiliates. In early 1928, Judson sold the network to brothers Isaac and Leon Levy, owners of the network's Philadelphia affiliate WCAU, and their partner Jerome Louchenheim. William S. Paley signed as president of the network and then changed  the corporate name to
