August 12, 1937: On this day, Red Skelton performed his comedy action on the Rudy Vallee Show that was broadcast by NBC network radio for the first time. Red Skelton , or Richard Bernard Skelton in real life, was an American comedian who worked in radio and television from 1937 to 1971. His famous routine called ""Doughnut Dunkers"" had landed him on Rudy Vallee's show in 1937. His guest appearance was such as success, that the show received fan mail requesting that Skelton be invited back for another performance. On November of the same year, he appeared on the show for the second time.
