July 30, 1937: The American Federation of Rada Artist (AFRA), formally formed on this day. The organization is the union of all radio performers excluding musician and as the part of American Federation Labor. In the future this organization changed to The American Federation of Television and Radio Artis (AFTRA).
At present, it is estimated that the union consists of over 65,000 members all over the US. Last March 30, AFTRA merged with another union known as SAG, or Screen Actors Guild, to form a new organization called SAG-AFTRA. This new organization now has more than 150,000 members.
